FUN QUILT FOR KIDS

Well, what can I say: my three boys loved the Explorer quilt. My oldest said it is his favorite quilt so far and he wants such quilt himself. And the little ones were just having a lot of fun any time I took the Explorer quilt out (as you can see in the video). So, I guess, it is a fun quilt for kids :)

Have a great adventure with the Explorer quilt!

QUILT TO INSPIRE ADVENTURES

"You're off to Great Places!

Today is your day!

Your mountain is waiting.

So... get on your way!"

(Dr. Seuss, "Oh the Places You'll GO!")

Whale

A friendly whale lives in the ocean

THREE SIZES

The pattern contains sewing instructions for a quilt in three sizes: a baby quilt (42" x 51"), a small throw (52" x 63") and a large throw (62" x 76"). So this is a quilt for all age groups - from a baby to toddler to preschooler to a teenage kid. The whale and the fish faces make this quilt perfect for a small child. Yet, leave those elements out to make a more mature and adult like quilt.

Birds

The sky at the ocean always has birds in it.

Ship

Here comes the explorer riding the waves in a colorful ship

Fish

Red fishes are appliqued on top of individual patchwork pieces. Then, the fishes are pieced into the patchwork to submerge their bellies.

APPLIQUES INHABIT THE OCEAN

As true oceans are full of life, the patchwork ocean in the Explorer quilt is also inhabited by applique creatures. All appliques are made out of contrasting fabrics to be well visible. If applique is not your cup of tea, just leave them out and make the wavy patchwork only. Alternatively, check out our raw edge machine applique or turned edge machine applique tutorials to learn how to make appliques with an ease.

PATCHWORK FLOWS IN WAVES

The patchwork of the Explorer quilt is pieced in a way to create fabric waves that overlap and flow in different versions. Diverse fabrics in every wave make the ocean very versatile and dynamic. Light fabrics on the top of the quilt make the sky that is distinguished by a line of horizon.
