Choosing fabric is the hardest part of quilting. And yet it is rarely taught properly — most of us learn by trial and error, one frustrating fabric pull at a time.
In this tutorial I share the five step approach I developed over years of designing quilt patterns. It covers everything from understanding your design and building a colour palette, to adjusting value, working with texture, and troubleshooting when something just isn't working.
What you will learn:
- How to read your quilt design before you shop for fabric
- How to build a colour palette that works
- Why value matters more than colour
- How texture and prints affect your fabric stack
- How to diagnose and fix a fabric pull that isn't working
Throughout the video I use my Dragonfly in the Sky quilt pattern as a real working example — showing every decision as it happens rather than in theory.
Dragonfly in the Sky Quilt Pattern — the current version of the pattern is available now in my shop. An updated remake is my next project, so watch this space.
